The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kafur, 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 from a fountain called Salsabila. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
