The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. 22
