The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 save boiling water and pus 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
