The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
