He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
