The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less! 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 on a great day 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery); 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
