He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
Almighty Allah's Truth.
