He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you give attention. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
