He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
