He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
