He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
