He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
