He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
