He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
