The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
