He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
