He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
