He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
Almighty God's Truth.
