He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
