He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
