The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 And what can make you know what is sijjeen? 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to those who deny [(Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection, and Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments)]. 10 Those who belie the Day of Requital. 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given to drink of pure wine, sealed. 25 its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 On (high) thrones, looking (at all things). 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
