In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
