The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 But when they measure out to others or weigh out for them, they are deficient. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 A record of misdeeds written. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? 19 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 and in their faces you shall know the radiance of bliss. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 The sealing of it is (with) musk; and for that let the aspirers aspire. 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost." 32 But they had not been sent as guardians over them. 33 On the Day of Judgment, the believers will laugh at the disbelievers 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
