The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe to the defrauders, 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do such people not realize that they will be raised up, 4 On a Great Day, 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 it is a written record. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 Nay! Verily, the Record (writing of the deeds) of Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil), is (preserved) in 'Illiyyun. 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 On couches, gazing, 23 Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 A fountain whereof will drink those brought nigh. 28 Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 But they had not been sent as keepers over them! 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 upon couches gazing. 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
