The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 And who, when they measure unto them or weigh for them, diminish. 3 Do they not think they will be raised (to life) again 4 On a grievous day, 5 The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 A written record. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Those who belie the Day of Requital. 11 And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner! 12 And when Our revelations are rehearsed unto him, he saith: fables of the ancients! 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 a written record, 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 upon couches gazing; 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
