Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
