Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And linen spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
