Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and goblets laid out, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
