Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And cups put in place 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
