Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O the contented soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
