Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
