Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
