Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
