Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
