The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
