The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
