Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
