The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
