The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
