The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
