The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And accepts the best, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
