The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
