The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
