The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and he belied the finest 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
