The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
