The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
