The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
