Al-A 'araaf 12 of 24

And We sent no Prophet unto any town (and they denied him), but We seized its people with suffering from extreme poverty (or loss in wealth) and loss of health and calamities, so that they might humiliate themselves (and repent to Allah). 94 Then We exchanged in place of the bad [condition], good, until they increased [and prospered] and said, "Our fathers [also] were touched with hardship and ease." So We seized them suddenly while they did not perceive. 95 And if the people of the townships had believed and kept from evil, surely We should have opened for them blessings from the sky and from the earth. But (unto every messenger) they gave the lie, and so We seized them on account of what they used to earn. 96 Did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment by night while they are asleep? 97 What! do the people of the towns feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they play? 98 Do they feel secure against God's devising? No one feels secure against God's devising except for those doomed to ruin. 99
