Has it not, then, become plain to those who have inherited the earth in the wake of the former generations that, had We so willed, We could have afflicted them for their sins, (they, however, are heedless to basic facts and so) We seal their hearts so that they hear nothing. 100 Such were the towns whose story We (thus) relate unto thee: There came indeed to them their messengers with clear (signs): But they would not believe what they had rejected before. Thus doth Allah seal up the hearts of those who reject faith. 101 And We found no covenant in most of them; and most of them We found ungodly. 102 After them We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs. But they willfully rejected them. Consider the end of the evil-doers. 103 Moses said: "O Pharaoh! I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds,- 104 "Proper it is for me that I say nothing concerning Allah but the truth. Indeed I have come unto you from your Lord with a clear proof. So let the Children of Israel depart along with me." 105 Said Firaun, “If you have come with a sign, then present it if you are truthful!” 106 Thereupon Moses threw his rod, and suddenly it was a veritable serpent. 107 And he drew forth his hand, and behold, it looked white to those who beheld it. 108
