The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 We inspired Moses to throw his staff, and suddenly it began to swallow-up all that the magicians had (falsely) invented. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
